Court to Decide Daddy Lumba Widowhood Dispute as Final Judgment Nears

Akosua Serwaa - Daddy Lumba and Odo Broni

A long and emotional courtroom battle over who holds the legitimate right to perform widowhood rites for highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, widely known as Daddy Lumba, is nearing its final phase as the Kumasi High Court prepares to deliver a ruling.

The presiding judge announced on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, that the verdict will be handed down on Friday, November 28, 2025, marking a decisive moment in the dispute.

The plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, is asking the court to affirm that she is the late musician’s only surviving spouse. She insists that this status should give her full authority to undertake every widowhood ritual. Her suit also calls for an order preventing Odo Broni from presenting herself as the wife of the highlife star.

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, who leads the Ekuona family in Parkoso, Kumasi, and Transitions Funeral Home in Accra, were also listed as defendants.

Across the hearings, four significant witnesses have already taken the stand. They include counsel for Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, Ernestina Fosuh, who is the sister of the late musician, Osei Sarfo Kantanka, who serves as a traditional authority at the Manhyia Palace, and family head Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu. The court expects at least two additional defence witnesses before the process concludes.

Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur had initially planned to issue the judgment on November 25, 2025. The timeline was later adjusted to November 28, 2025. She has directed both sides to file their written arguments by Wednesday so that all submissions are complete ahead of the decision on Friday.
