Papa Shee Details What Caused the Power Struggle Between Daddy Lumba’s Wives, Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni

Papa Shee and Daddy Lumba

Fresh details about the confusion happening in Daddy Lumba’s home after his demise have surfaced, with evangelist and former hiplife musician Papa Shee outlining how tensions between Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni gradually hardened into open conflict.

Speaking in an interview with ZionFelix, Papa Shee traced the origins of the dispute to the days immediately after the Highlife legend’s death. He explained that Akosua Serwaa returned from Germany but chose not to move into her late husband’s residence. She instead stayed with businessman Kennedy Agyapong, whom she trusted to provide a space free from potential clashes with the second wife, Odo Broni.

What began as a quiet effort to avoid drama, he said, soon spilled into the public sphere. According to Papa Shee, a DL FM worker stirred the first major controversy when he took a swipe at Akosua Serwaa live on air and declared that he acknowledged only Odo Broni as the musician’s legitimate partner. Disturbed by the broadcast, Papa Shee reached out to Lumba’s manager, Roman Fada, to question why it had been allowed. Roman, he recalled, apologised and confirmed that the clip had been removed from social media.

“I asked why the young man disrespected Akosua Serwaa. Roman apologised and said he had made sure the video was deleted. I warned them not to go down that path and to be extra careful,” Papa Shee recounted.

He added that the same pattern resurfaced during family visits. As mourners arrived to pay respects, Roman would introduce Odo Broni as “the wife of Daddy Lumba,” but he referred to Akosua Serwaa merely as “a German borga.” Combined with the earlier DL FM incident, this left the impression that she was being intentionally pushed aside.

The dispute eventually moved from discomfort to litigation. Shortly after the one-week observance on August 30, 2025, Akosua Serwaa filed a suit against family head Kofi Owusu and Odo Broni, whose private name is Priscilla Ofori. She asked the court to declare her the sole lawful spouse and to prevent recognition of the second wife.

The Kumasi High Court ultimately dismissed her request. Justice Dorinda Smith concluded that Akosua Serwaa had not sufficiently proven exclusive marital rights, while the evidence presented by Odo Broni confirmed her traditional marriage to the musician. The judge also found the marriage certificate submitted by Akosua Serwaa inadequate to establish a valid ordinance marriage in Germany.

The ruling directed that both women, one based in Germany and the other in Ghana, be formally recognised as spouses of the late Highlife star and allowed to perform their widowhood rites.
