I am Being Asked to Pay $150,000 For Using Images of Myself – Kwesi Arthur Cries Foul

Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has reignited conversations around his career, this time with serious allegations against his former record label, Ground Up, just weeks after fans welcomed a preview of his unreleased music.

The artiste recently shared a short clip of a song in progress, a move that quickly gained traction online and drew praise from listeners who said they had missed his sound and creative energy. That renewed attention was followed by a public outburst in which Kwesi Arthur accused his former label of blocking his progress and making what he described as unreasonable financial demands.

In a post on X dated January 21, 2026, the rapper said Ground Up is demanding $150,000 from him for using images of himself as part of his current project. He claimed the label maintains ownership over his image, music, and all creative work dating back to the period before their split.

“I am currently being asked to pay $150,000 for using images of myself for this current project. Ground Up claims to own me, my image, my music, and everything attached to it from 2016 to this day.

“Although I have not worked with or had any affiliation with the company since Son of Jacob, I have not made a dime from any of my music from the period I worked with them for years now,” he said.

Kwesi Arthur also raised concerns about his personal safety, saying responsibility should fall on Ground Up’s founder, Glen Boateng, if anything happens to him. He alleged that the label’s chief executive has subjected him to threats and manipulation while continuing to benefit financially from his work.

“If anything happens to me, Glen Boateng and all team members of Ground Up Chale are responsible and should be held accountable. I have received constant threats and manipulation from Glen, who is living off my money and hard work,” he stated.

The rapper further claimed that deliberate attempts are being made to stop him from releasing music on his own terms, warning fans that any disruption to his upcoming independent project would not be accidental.

“If, for whatever reason, the project I am trying to give my fans independently gets taken down, know that Glen is responsible. He is constantly working to block me so that I never put out music again,” Kwesi Arthur added.
