Police Probe Armed Crowd Attack on Jacobu Patrol Team in Ashanti Region

Ghana Police Service

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating a violent confrontation between a Jacobu District patrol team and a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum on Friday, January 23.

Police reports indicate the clash erupted after officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy during routine patrol. The boy was instructed to notify the firearm’s owner to report to the police station with proper documentation.

As the patrol team returned, they encountered roughly 100 people blocking the road. Some members of the crowd were reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, and they allegedly attacked the officers, seizing one of their service rifles in the process.

During the struggle, police fired shots, wounding the individual who had taken the rifle and another person. The service weapon was later recovered by the officers.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has issued a stern warning against assaults on law enforcement personnel, noting that such acts compromise policing efforts. The command emphasized that all individuals involved in the attack would be identified, arrested, and prosecuted according to the law.
