Bishop JY Adu, leader of the New Jerusalem Chapel and close confidant of the late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, has shared how the singer was deeply impacted after personal matters were publicly discussed on Oyerepa FM/TV.

In a recent interview with Denis Mac-Caulley (Bonshayka) on Hello FM in Kumasi, Bishop Adu explained that one of the moments that caused Yaw Sarpong distress occurred when his wife attempted to address their marital issues through a program hosted by Auntie Naa on Oyerepa TV. He said the discussion went far beyond casual conversation and affected the musician at a spiritual and personal level. Adu added that Sarpong did not take kindly to the remarks made about him and his family on air.

Before this public incident, Adu noted, Yaw Sarpong had been in good health, actively singing and playing multiple instruments at church. However, after the program aired, his condition declined. Adu described how the musician appeared mentally shaken, experiencing episodes similar to memory loss where he would occasionally regain clarity, only to lose it again.

The bishop also shared the challenges he faced in caring for Yaw Sarpong, highlighting the responsibility he carried in ensuring the singer’s well-being. He recalled how quickly Sarpong’s children arrived to take him under their care following the death of Maama Tiwaa.

Bishop JY Adu emphasized that he had known Yaw Sarpong for many years and had been able to provide care even when medical doctors were unable to cure him. While under Adu’s supervision, Sarpong received consistent attention, including regular monitoring of his blood pressure and vital signs, ensuring he was treated with diligence and care until his final days.
