Ghanaian artiste Sam Sarfo Junior, known in the entertainment scene as Showboy, is in the custody of the Ghana Police Service days after a video surfaced online showing him in a confrontation with officers during his arrest.
A video circulating on social media captured the artiste in handcuffs while exchanging words with several police personnel. He appeared visibly unsettled during the encounter and repeatedly expressed his frustration, stating that “This is so… wrong.”
Audio in the background of the video suggests the arrest was carried out on orders from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters. A female officer, who introduced herself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, was also heard speaking to him while officers managed the situation.
Showboy is seen in the video asking for water and requesting permission to contact his doctor. He indicated that he was receiving psychiatric care and emphasized the importance of speaking with his psychiatrist. The officers maintained a calm approach as they attempted to ease tensions.
The detention follows an earlier standoff at the musician’s residence. During that episode, individuals believed to be CID operatives tried to arrest him while he was broadcasting live on TikTok. The footage from that moment quickly gained traction across various social media platforms.
In the earlier incident, Showboy appeared highly agitated and questioned the officers’ authority, insisting they had not produced the required legal documents. He declined to accompany them, telling both the officers and his livestream audience that he could not be arrested without proper authorization.
The Ghana Police Service has yet to release an official statement outlining the exact grounds for the arrest.
