Kojo Antwi Reveals Secret Romance That Nearly Landed Him in Police Trouble

Highlife musician Kojo Antwi has opened up about a little-known episode from his youth that once threatened to cut short his journey in music, revealing how a secret romance nearly landed him in serious trouble with the police.

During an appearance on Joy FM’s Personality Profile with Lexis Bill on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the celebrated musician revisited a long-buried memory involving a relationship with the daughter of a police officer. The revelation sheds light on a chapter of his life that remained private for almost five decades.

The episode dates back to his formative years in the music scene when he worked as a band boy, long before his rise to national fame. At the time, Kojo Antwi was performing at Walako, a well-known entertainment spot around Kaneshie, when his girlfriend unexpectedly showed up. She was meant to be in school, a detail that worried the young performer.

Determined to ensure her safe return home, he halted the performance and stepped out with her to find transport.

“I decided to send her home. So I took her to try to grab a taxi for her to go home. We were there, and the police patrol team just bumped into us, and they started asking us questions. One question. They wouldn’t even wait for answers,” Kojo Antwi recounted.

What began as routine questioning quickly intensified. The patrol team escorted the pair to the girl’s mother, where an even more startling discovery awaited. Her father, a senior officer stationed at the Nima Police Station, had already begun searching for them.

“I hadn’t had time to talk to her about her dad. She had never mentioned the daddy. I didn’t know he was a police officer at Nima Police Station. That’s a part that, I mean, most people didn’t know about,” he told Lexis Bill.

Reflecting on the period, Kojo Antwi explained that musicians, particularly those working as band boys, were not regarded with respect at the time. He noted that the profession carried social stigma and was often frowned upon by families, especially those with strict professional backgrounds.

“Back then, it wasn’t something that came with prestige, nothing. It’s not something that a policeman would want the daughter to be attached to,” the ‘Akonoba’ singer stated.
