Asante Kotoko’s hopes of defending their MTN FA Cup crown ended on Sunday after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Aduana FC in the last 16.
The Porcupine Warriors could not break down the Dormaa-based side at the Baba Yara Stadium, with the match finishing 0-0 in regulation before Aduana triumphed 4-2 from the spot.
Kotoko came into the game determined to reach the quarterfinals and keep their title defense alive. Abdul Karim Zito’s men earned a first-half penalty, but skipper Samba O’Neil saw his effort brilliantly saved by the Aduana goalkeeper.
Aduana also had opportunities to score but failed to capitalize, leaving the deadlock intact and forcing the contest into penalties. Kotoko faltered in their first two of the four spot-kicks, while Aduana converted four of five to book a place in the next round.
The Dormaa side will now meet Techiman Liberty Youth as the FA Cup moves forward.
