Police Arrest Two Men, Recover Guns in Accra-to-Kpandai Arms Bust

Ghana police intercept Kia Rhino loaded with guns and 525 ammo pieces en route from Accra to Kpandai; two men arrested for smuggling.

Police have foiled another arms smuggling attempt, seizing guns and ammunition bound for Kpandai in the Northern Region.

On January 27, 2026, authorities intercepted several bags containing firearms and ammo before they could leave Accra for their final destination.

The Oti Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) traced the consignment to a Kia Rhino, registration GS-4677-17, loaded with boxes of ammunition. Acting on the information, PID Director ASP Maxwell Osafo-Adamu dispatched a team to set up an ambush.

The operation culminated on Sunday, February 8, 2026, around 3:30 p.m., when the vehicle was stopped. A detailed search uncovered one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing 525 pieces of Lion AAA and BB ammunition, hidden beneath building materials.

Two men, driver Abubakari Salam Atta and his assistant Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, were arrested at the scene.

During questioning, the suspects claimed ownership of the weapons and ammunition and remain in custody as investigations continue, Graphic Online reported.
