Being a Musician and Not Singing Gospel, People Just Assume You’re Worldly – Kwaw Kese

Kwaw Kese

Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese is confronting a common misconception: that a secular music career excludes a deep spiritual life.

In a recent interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, he reflected on the surprise many express when they see him in church.

“People will be stealing glances whenever I go to church and they will be wondering if I’m actually the one. It’s a nice feeling when you socialize with a group of people to share the word of God,” he said.

Kwaw Kese explained that his choice to perform secular rather than gospel music often leads people to question his religiosity.

“Being a musician and not singing gospel, people just assume you’re a worldly person. They don’t attach you to religion because we sing worldly songs,” he stated.

He added that his dreadlocks often reinforce the assumptions others make about him.

“Also, the fact that I have dreadlocks on, people have their own perceptions about us,” he shared.

Despite these judgments, the rapper emphasized that his personal faith remains unwavering.

“To me, I know I’m closer to God than most of the people who go to church,” Kwaw Kese further stated.
