Ghanaian rapper Medikal has reacted to the release of nominees for the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, directing a pointed message to the awards board over the fiercely contested Artiste of the Year race.
The artiste whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, reportedly made the remarks while performing at the Kumawu Papa Nantwie Festival concert in the Ashanti Region during the early hours of Sunday, March 15.
Pausing during his set to speak to the crowd, Medikal revealed that he earned nominations in multiple categories for this year’s awards, including a place in the top Artiste of the Year category. He told fans that based on the volume of work he delivered and the influence he had during the year under review, he believes he stands ahead of the other contenders.
He then called on the audience to echo a warning to the organisers, insisting that the final decision must be free of bias. Using the phrase “No Libilibi No Labalaba,” the rapper stressed that the process should not be influenced by favouritism.
“You know they have nominated me for TGMA awards, including the Artiste of the Year. And we all know last year I worked more than everybody in that category. So tell them that ‘No Libilibi No Labalaba’ for the Artiste of the Year award. I outperformed every artiste the whole of last year,” he told the crowd while performing on stage.
The nominees for this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards were unveiled on Saturday, March 14, across the various categories.
Voting has already opened to the public, with supporters mobilising behind their favourite artistes and songs ahead of the main awards ceremony slated for May 9, 2026.
