Howard University Students to Study Cardi B’s Am I The Drama? Album Rollout

Howard University will give hip-hop studies majors an inside look at Cardi B’s album rollout strategy for her sophomore record, Am I The Drama?.

According to ThatGrapeJuice, the course, created in partnership with Warner Music, “will break down the strategy behind an album campaign that sold over 200,000 units in its first week.” Students can enroll in the class for the Fall 2026 semester.

Cardi B set social media alight on June 23, 2025, when she unveiled Am I The Drama?, her first album in seven years following her debut, Invasion of Privacy. To build anticipation, she released multiple alternative covers in the weeks that followed, naming them the “Imaginary Playerz”, “Pretty & Petty”, and “Magnet” editions.

In September 2025, she amplified the buzz with a pop-up event called “Bodega Baddie” at a local bodega in Washington Heights, New York City. Around the same time, Cardi found herself in court after a former security guard accused her of assault during a 2018 incident at a medical office. Cardi intertwined her personal drama with her promotional campaign, turning courtroom appearances into extensions of her album narrative.

On September 3, she announced special CD editions titled “The Courtroom Edition,” featuring cover photos from her viral trial moments.

Am I The Drama? boasts collaborations with Summer Walker, Selena Gomez, Kehlani, Dougie F, Lizzo, Cash Cobain, Lourdiz, Janet Jackson, Tyla, and Megan Thee Stallion. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 200,000 units sold in its first week. The twenty-three track project also includes fan favorites “WAP” and “Up.”
