Papi of 5Five fame has pushed back strongly against claims by Stonebwoy that his 2024 song ‘Jejereje’ played a role in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s victory in the general elections, dismissing the assertion as untrue and misleading.
Speaking on Okay FM on March 26, 2026, Papi expressed disbelief that Stonebwoy would publicly link the track to a political outcome, insisting the song had no influence on the election results.
He argued that Stonebwoy had previously been clear about keeping his music away from politics, and questioned what he described as a sudden shift in narrative.
According to Papi, the change in position raises consistency issues, especially given the earlier stance that discouraged political associations with his work. He also urged Stonebwoy to be more straightforward rather than attempting to straddle both sides of the political divide.
“Stonebwoy is telling lies. His song didn’t contribute to the NDC’s victory. He said we shouldn’t associate politics with his work, and now all of a sudden he is doing exactly that. What are we even doing? He should take a clear side instead of trying to play smart. When the song was first released, he made it clear it wasn’t political, so why the sudden change now?” he said.
Stonebwoy, however, recently made the remarks at the Black Stars World Cup Fundraiser held at the Kempinski Hotel on March 21, 2026, where he suggested that ‘Jejereje’ had a meaningful impact on the NDC’s 2024 election win.
He framed the song as part of his broader contribution to national discourse, arguing that its message resonated at a politically sensitive time.
“When we talk about contributions, I believe that my contribution has been very significant in actually winning power for the NDC because everybody has heard ‘naano ee nakofa baaye o’.
“Mainly because I am somebody who believes in reset, so per my own judgement, I made sure that that music was dropped within a moment when there was some ease in the system. Because it was so tensed and I dropped it in terms of contributions,” Stonebwoy stated.
