Music Shouldn’t Feel Like Politics – Wendy Shay Calls for Calm in TGMA Nomination Debate

With conversations around the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominations intensifying across social media, Artiste of the Year nominee Wendy Shay has weighed in, appealing for calm and a more respectful tone among fan communities.

In a post on X, she reacted to what she described as rising hostility between fanbases since the release of this year’s nomination list. She urged supporters to step back from combative exchanges and instead focus on healthy appreciation of music.

She wrote: “Music is meant to heal, entertain, and educate… it shouldn’t feel like politics. Let’s support our favourite artistes with positivity and respect, without putting others down. Every artiste works hard and deserves to be appreciated.”

Her intervention comes at a time when tensions have already spilled into public statements from several industry figures.

Medikal has openly insisted he believes he deserves the Artiste of the Year title, while duo Keche have voiced disappointment over their complete absence from the nominations. Meanwhile, management for AratheJay has submitted a formal petition to the TGMA board, requesting clarification on certain exclusions.
