“I Cried the Most in My Life” — Stonebwoy on Losing His Mother

Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy has reflected on a deeply traumatic moment in his life, saying the passing of his mother remains the time he has cried the most.

The dancehall and reggae star shared the experience in a conversation with Kafui Dey, recalling how the news reached him while he was in New York attending his first BET Awards.

He explained that although he had been told earlier that his mother was unwell, he was later reassured she was recovering, making the eventual news even more shocking.

“That was the moment I knew I cried the most in my life. It was depressing. Something happens to you that you can’t control, and you just pray to God to be able to go through that period,” he said.

Before her passing, Stonebwoy noted that he had spoken to her while she was in the village attending a funeral.

Shortly after his BET win, however, his sister contacted him with urgent updates, first reporting that their mother had collapsed at home and was receiving treatment at the hospital, where doctors initially indicated signs of recovery.

The situation changed rapidly. On his return to Ghana, he went straight from the airport to the 37 Military Hospital, leaving his luggage behind.

He described what followed as heartbreaking, adding that his mother had always been his strongest pillar of support.

“My mom was my rock. We were connected intuitively in everything. Even when she passed, I think she waited for me to get home. Immediately, I got to 37, and I was the first person they brought the body to. I was rushing, I left my bag at the airport,” Stonebwoy recalled.
