Ohemaa Woyeje Recalls Hurtful ‘Barren’ Rumours During Early Marriage

Ohemaa Woyeje

Ghanaian media personality Ohemaa Woyeje has opened up about the emotional strain she endured in the early days of her marriage, describing how public perception and online commentary shaped a difficult period for her.

Speaking in an interview with MzGee, she revealed that within just a year of marriage, she was unfairly tagged as “barren” by sections of the public.

According to her, she and her husband had deliberately chosen to enjoy their early years together before starting a family, a decision she says was widely misunderstood and harshly judged.

She explained that instead of being allowed to settle into married life at their own pace, they were met with criticism and name-calling that gradually weighed on her emotionally.

“They made it seem like, look at us, a young couple, we were supposed to enjoy all the romantic moments and good times before even thinking about getting pregnant and having children, because automatically, when kids come, they take a major part of the fun you share as a couple. But Ghanaians did not see it that way.

“I remember even during our first wedding anniversary, people were asking, ‘What are they celebrating?’ So that meant that one year of marriage without a child was not worth celebrating because you had nothing to be proud of as a wife, and that felt so bad,” she said.

Ohemaa Woyeje further disclosed that the situation extended beyond public criticism and began to affect how some members of her husband’s family perceived her, largely influenced by social media narratives.

She disclosed that while her relationship with her husband remained steady, external pressure created doubt within parts of the family circle.

“I mean, for my husband, I did not have a challenge with him. But I had challenges even from his family. At a point, because people had already said so much and the internet does not forget, some of the allegations people put online were that I did not even have a womb,” Ohemaa Woyeje further stated.
