Kwaw Kese Eyes Poultry Farming Under Government’s ‘Nkokor Nketenkete’ Initiative

Ghanaian hiplife artiste Kwaw Kese has shared plans to venture into poultry farming, expressing interest in joining the government’s ‘Nkokor Nketenkete’ initiative.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, the rapper said he intends to expand his business ventures beyond music.

“I do maize and cassava farming. I am ready to jump into the ‘nkokor nketenkete’ to start a poultry farm, so the government can help me,” he said.

Kwaw Kese explained that living solely on music in Ghana is challenging, which has motivated him to explore other income streams. Apart from his agricultural interests, he also runs an automobile business and an eatery.

The ‘Nkokor Nketenkete’ initiative forms part of the government’s Feed Ghana flagship programme. It aims to revive the poultry industry by boosting domestic production of broiler chickens and eggs to cut down on imports.

The project, according to a report, targets about 55,000 households to take part in egg and poultry production. The government plans to supply day-old chicks, cages, feed, vaccines and technical support to both small and medium-scale producers.

A pilot phase will begin in selected districts, including twelve in the Northern Region, before expanding nationwide.

Another component will involve around 50 large or medium-scale commercial farmers, each expected to raise about 80,000 birds. The goal is to make Ghana self-sufficient in poultry production within three years and significantly reduce the country’s poultry import bill.
