Police Launch Major Manhunt After Fatal Armed Attacks in Bono East and Northern Regions

Four people killed in separate armed attacks in Bono East and Northern regions, with police intensifying manhunt for suspects.

A wave of deadly armed attacks in two regions has left four people dead and several others wounded, triggering a swift security response from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who has ordered special units to pursue the attackers.

According to a statement shared by the Ghana Police Service on social media, the incidents both happened on May 2, 2026, in the Bono East and Northern regions.

The first attack took place at a fuel station in Sampa, near Jato Zongo in the Atebubu District of the Bono East Region. Armed men stormed the facility, opened fire, killed two people and left others injured before robbing the attendant of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Later the same day, another violent incident was recorded on the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway near Nasia. Gunmen reportedly ambushed a passenger bus, shooting into the vehicle. Two passengers died instantly while several others sustained gunshot injuries.

In response, Mr Yohuno has directed officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters and the Anti Armed Robbery Unit to both regions to reinforce ongoing operations and lead efforts to track down the suspects.

The Police Service says patrols have been intensified in the affected communities as part of heightened security measures.

Authorities have also assured the public that those responsible will be arrested and made to face justice.
