Ghanaian Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has opened up about stepping away from smoking, citing his battle with asthma as the turning point that forced a rethink of his habits.
Speaking on Joy FM on May 2, 2026, the veteran rapper reflected on how age and health have pushed him to reassess his lifestyle, leading to a series of deliberate changes aimed at protecting his well-being.
Looking back, Rockstone admitted he was not always cautious. He said he explored certain habits in his younger years but eventually chose a different path.
Responding to whether he had ever smoked, he said, “I have done everything. I never did hard drugs which I thank God because I have a very addictive personality, so I am blessed in that sense so yeah, with the ganja, I tried all of that before.”
He explained that his asthma diagnosis made continuing down that road untenable, especially given his family’s medical history.
“At this point, being that I am asthmatic, so I got no business smoking again. My father was heavy asthmatic, my son has asthma, so I had no business smoking anyway,” he further stated.
Beyond quitting smoking, Rockstone said his entire approach to food and daily living has shifted over time. He described becoming more intentional about what he eats and how he treats his body.
“Lately, I have specific food I eat. As I grew older I have become wiser. I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes. Because I came up and show business and we moved around eating all sort of things. But I was blessed to have cut out red meat early. I think I ate pork in my teens.
“Nobody asked me to stop eating it. I stopped on my own. I have always drunk a lot of water because my father said so, I have always ate fruits,” he disclosed.
Reggie Rockstone added that fruits such as watermelon and pawpaw are now staples in his diet, alongside a consistent workout routine. Alcohol, red meat, and processed sugar, he said, are no longer part of his lifestyle as he focuses on staying fit and managing his health.
