Prophet Kofi Oduro’s Comments on Dumsor Ignite Public Backlash

A sermon delivered by Head Pastor of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has triggered widespread debate after he used strong language to describe Ghanaians who speak out about the ongoing ‘dumsor’ situation.

During a recent church service, the preacher criticised what he called selective public memory around the country’s electricity challenges, suggesting that many who once complained loudly have since gone quiet as supply has stabilised in some areas.

Video clips circulating online captured him saying, “Fools. You see that after the light became stable, no one has said anything about it, it is only stupidity that will trigger anyone to come out and complain about dumsor,” he said.

He went on to argue that the power crisis had deeper technical roots tied to issues at the Akosombo Dam, insisting that it should not be reduced to political finger-pointing or public frustration alone.

According to him, the scale of the challenge required patience rather than continuous criticism. He questioned the expectations placed on leaders in handling the situation.

“Akosombo got burnt, and no one could say let’s pray, but they were complaining, why? It will take time for the problem to be fixed. So, problems shouldn’t be fixed because you voted? What sort of stupid mindset is that?” the prophet stressed.

The remarks, particularly his use of the word “stupid” in reference to critics of the power situation, have sparked heated reactions across social media platforms.

While some supporters argue he was emphasising the technical complexity of the issue, many critics have condemned his choice of words, describing them as dismissive of the real hardships caused by prolonged power outages for households and businesses.

Below is the video of his remarks.
