The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has taken disciplinary action by interdicting a police inspector who is being investigated over allegations of defilement.
The officer at the centre of the case, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, is attached to the Mamponteng District and is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Agona District.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Affairs Unit in Mampong on Friday, May 9, 2026, authorities confirmed that the complaint was first filed on November 4, 2025.
The statement further noted that Inspector Afriyie later presented himself to the Agona DOVVSU on February 20, 2026, where investigators obtained a cautioned statement from him.
He is reported to have denied the allegations during questioning and was subsequently granted enquiry bail, with instructions to regularly report to investigators as the case progressed.
According to the Command, the interdiction is strictly an administrative measure intended to allow investigations to continue without interference, pending their conclusion.
Authorities added that the inquiry remains ongoing and that the public will be informed of any significant developments when necessary.
