KK Fosu has renewed his political ambitions, declaring that he will contest the Akuapem North parliamentary seat in the 2028 general election and expressing confidence that he can unseat incumbent MP Sammy Awuku.
The Highlife musician said he plans to enter the race as an independent candidate, adding that the outcome would be the same whether Sammy Awuku contests on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or chooses to run independently.
Speaking in a recent interview on Asempa FM, KK Fosu explained that he had initially intended to contest the 2024 parliamentary election. However, those plans were abandoned after he was involved in a fatal road accident with fellow musician Bless on the Apam to Winneba highway that year.
Confident about his chances in 2028, the musician challenged the Akuapem North lawmaker to leave the NPP and test his popularity as an independent candidate.
He further argued that the NPP no longer holds the political influence it once did, insisting that he would still defeat Sammy Awuku even if he remains the party’s candidate.
“I will contest for the seat. I did not contest in 2024 because of my accident. When Sammy Awuku heard I wanted to contest, he also joined the contest. If he wants, he should leave the NPP and also contest as an independent candidate; I will beat him. Even the NPP is dead, so I can beat him,” he averred.
Sammy Awuku appeared to take the remarks in good spirit, responding with a humorous message on social media.
“KK Fosu m’aya da! Please get me a campaign track before you pick nomination forms. Nice weekend, Bro,” he wrote.
Politics is not a new ambition for KK Fosu, born Kaakyire Kwame Fosu. The musician has openly spoken about his desire to represent Akuapem North in Parliament for several years.
Ahead of the 2020 general election, he publicly announced his intention to contest the seat, explaining that his motivation was to create opportunities for young people in the constituency and contribute to its development.
