Ghanaian filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, well known as Lilwin, says he will be raising his acting fees once his forthcoming movie, Journey to Africa, is released, arguing that the move reflects the value he brings to the industry.
The actor and producer revealed that he plans to charge $100,000 for a three-day acting role in Ghana and $150,000 for productions outside the country.
Speaking in a video shared online, Lilwin said the decision comes after investing heavily in Journey to Africa, a project he believes marks a major milestone in his career.
“After I complete Journey to Africa, a project in which I’m working with more than six well-established actors from Nigeria alongside about 40 local Ghanaian actors, I plan to charge $100,000 for a three-day movie role in Ghana. For projects outside Ghana, my fee will be $150,000,” he stated.
Despite the planned fee increase, Lilwin maintained that financial reward is not the main factor that influences the roles he accepts.
He explained that he prioritises projects capable of expanding his career and opening doors to the international film industry. According to him, he would even waive his fee if a production offers the right platform and creative opportunity.
However, he said producers should expect to pay his full rate if he believes their project falls below the quality of films he has personally produced.
“I’m not necessarily in it for the money. I’m looking for roles that will take my career to the next level. If the script is powerful and I believe it will benefit my career, I may not even charge you. I’ll gladly do it for free. But if the quality of the project doesn’t match the standard of the films I’ve produced myself, then I’ll charge my fee,” he explained.
Lilwin also spoke about his long-term ambition of establishing himself in Hollywood, describing it as the driving force behind many of the career decisions he is making today.
While acting remains central to his aspirations, he believes filmmaking and production will also play a vital role in helping him gain international recognition and attract partnerships with global industry players.
“I want to work on projects that will elevate my career because my ultimate goal is to make it to Hollywood. That’s why I’m putting in all this effort. I also believe it’s not only acting that can take me to Hollywood. Producing can open that door as well. After my upcoming movie, I hope to attract an international producer who will collaborate with me, and together we can work with Hollywood actors,” Lilwin further stated.
