Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles, has suffered another setback after an Accra High Court authorised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to freeze five of his bank accounts and place restrictions on four landed properties as investigations into an alleged GH¢55 million financial scandal deepen.
The court order is part of EOCO’s ongoing probe into the alleged misappropriation of public funds at the IMCCoD. Investigators are examining suspected fraud, theft and procurement-related breaches believed to have occurred during Mr Aboagye’s time as Executive Secretary, Myjoyonline reported.
The latest court action comes weeks after Mr Aboagye was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, July 12, shortly after arriving in Ghana. Immigration officials intercepted him on arrival and handed him over to EOCO officers for questioning before he was later released.
EOCO says the decision to arrest the former government official followed what it described as significant new discoveries made during the course of its investigations.
According to the anti-graft agency, Mr Aboagye had already been cooperating with investigators and had responded to previous invitations to assist with the inquiry. However, it explained that a stop order had been placed on him to prevent any travel that could compromise the ongoing investigation.
The Office insists the arrest was carried out as part of its wider efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial irregularities at the IMCCoD.
Investigators have also arrested the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as EOCO continues its inquiry into the alleged loss of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.
