Akwaboah Dismisses Claims His Wife Doesn’t Care for Him

Akwaboah and his wife Theresa Naa Akwaboah

Akwaboah has reacted to claims that his wife, Theresa Naa Akwaboah, does not take proper care of him. He insisted that their marriage has been peaceful and fulfilling since they tied the knot two years ago.

In an interview with ZionFelix, the singer and songwriter said reports suggesting he is not well fed at home are completely at odds with his reality, describing his wife as an excellent cook and saying married life has brought him even greater happiness.

“We’ve been married for two years, and we dated for two years before that, so we’ve been together for four years. By God’s grace, everything is going well. My wife is a very good cook, so when people say I don’t eat well at home, I just wonder who told them that. I’m even happier now than I was before because everything is okay,” he noted.

Akwaboah also opened up about the online criticism his wife has faced since their relationship became public, revealing that he had already prepared her for such reactions long before they exchanged vows.

He explained that he knew being in a relationship with a public figure would inevitably attract unwarranted criticism from some quarters, regardless of her actions.

“Even before we got married, I kept telling her that the day I introduced her to the world, some people would hate her for no reason. She wouldn’t have done anything to them, but they would still have something negative to say,” he said.

Despite the constant commentary on social media, the musician said neither he nor his wife has allowed outside opinions to create tension in their home. Instead, he said they often find humour in the remarks and move on.

“Whenever people make such comments, she shows them to me, and we just laugh about them. So far, none of it has affected our marriage. We’ve never quarrelled or even thought about divorce because of what people say. We’re like best friends,” he added.

The interview also gave Akwaboah an opportunity to revisit his widely debated advice that anyone planning to marry should be able to save at least GH¢8,000 each month before taking that step.

According to him, many people criticised the statement because they had not yet experienced the financial demands that come with marriage and raising a family.

He argued that once couples begin managing a household, expenses quickly pile up, making GH¢8,000 far less substantial than many imagine. He pointed to daily necessities such as food, diapers, support for extended family members, and other recurring obligations as examples of the costs married couples routinely face.

“Everybody was quick to attack me because I mentioned GH¢8,000. The younger ones can say whatever they want because they are not married yet. But once you get married and start a family, you’ll realize that even GH¢8,000 isn’t enough. When you factor in diapers, food, supporting your in-laws, and all the other responsibilities, you’ll see that you spend far more than that in a single month,” Akwaboah stressed.
