Veteran Ghanaian actress Irene Opare has singled out dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as her favourite male artiste, saying his ability to command attention sets him apart from many other prominent personalities.
Irene Opare made the revelation in an interview captured by Seancity TV, where she spoke about her love for music and the qualities she admires in the controversial musician.
For the actress, Shatta Wale’s appeal goes beyond his music. She believes he possesses a rare kind of charisma that makes people gravitate towards him, regardless of their personal feelings about him.
“My favourite male artiste is Shatta Wale. I like everything about Shatta Wale and he is a real guy,” she said.
Irene Opare also revealed that music is deeply woven into her daily routine. Although acting remains her biggest passion, she said she regularly spends time at home listening to music and dancing.
“I love doing movies, but I love music. Movies are my passion, but music is my thing. On a regular day, if you find me at home, you will see me playing music and dancing,” she stated.
Her admiration for Shatta Wale, however, appears to be driven largely by what she considers his exceptional personality.
According to Irene, the musician has a quality that is not commonly found among celebrities and even extends to influential figures outside the entertainment industry.
“He has something that most musicians and personalities don’t have, even politicians, which is charisma,” she shared.
To further explain what she means, Irene Opare drew a comparison between Shatta Wale and Ghana’s late former President Jerry John Rawlings, another public figure widely known for his strong personality and ability to attract attention.
“Shatta is like the late JJ Rawlings for me and they have charisma,” she explained.
She argued that Shatta Wale’s charisma is so powerful that even people who openly dislike him may still be drawn to him when they encounter him in person.
“If you hate Shatta, whether maybe he has insulted your mother or father and you hear that he is coming down the road, you will run to go and see him. You will go and shake his hand and that’s the charisma I’m talking about. Take it or leave it,” she averred.
Beyond his personality, Irene Opare said she enjoys Shatta Wale’s music and listens to his songs regularly. However, she identified ‘On God’ as the track that holds a special place for her.
She described the song as having a spiritual dimension, saying its message and delivery create the feeling of a direct conversation with God.
“I love all his songs, but ‘On God’ is my favourite. That song feels like a spirit when you’re singing it. It’s gospel music and it’s like you’re talking to God,” Irene Opare further stated.
