Shatta Wale‘s energetic appearance at this year’s Nkrumahfest has earned him a high-profile endorsement from Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
The minister, impressed by the reception that greeted the dancehall artiste’s performance, declared Shatta Wale the “Youth President of the Western Region” and said he now understands the strong connection between the musician and young people.
Armah-Kofi Buah made the declaration after Shatta Wale had finished performing at the festival, recalling the persistent calls he had received from young people in the region to bring the artiste to perform.
“For five years, the youth of the Western Region have been worrying me, ‘Bring Shatta, bring Shatta.’ But I swear to God, today, now I understand. Shatta forever,” he said to loud cheers from the audience.
According to the minister, Shatta Wale’s performance had given him a clearer picture of the artiste’s popularity among the youth and why his name had repeatedly come up in their requests over the years.
He subsequently bestowed the “Youth President of the Western Region” title on Shatta Wale, while jokingly suggesting that the musician could take on an even bigger role among young people worldwide.
“I declare Shatta the Youth President of the Western Region. I may be tempted to say, ‘Shatta, we want you to run for the President of the youth for the world.’ We are proud of you. Today, I understand why,” he stated.
The minister’s praise did not end with the declaration. He also announced plans to display his support for the artiste by putting a Shatta Wale sticker on his vehicle.
“I am going to put your sticker on my car, and I am a Shatta forever fan. God bless you,” he further stated.
