The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the end of Carlos Queiroz’s tenure as head coach of the Black Stars after both sides agreed to terminate their Service Agreement.
The decision follows discussions between the two parties, with the GFA saying the separation was reached in a spirit of mutual respect and with the interests of Ghanaian football in mind.
According to the Association, the decision was not an easy one, but both sides ultimately agreed that bringing the professional relationship to an end was the most appropriate step under the circumstances.
The GFA expressed its appreciation to the Portuguese coach for the commitment and professionalism he brought to the Black Stars during his time in charge.
“We are grateful for his efforts in helping to build a stronger future for the national team and supporting the development of Ghanaian talent since taking charge ahead of the preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.”
Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars as Ghana prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while also beginning preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
His departure also brings an early end to a coaching arrangement that had placed him at the centre of Ghana’s efforts to strengthen the national team ahead of two major international assignments.
The GFA also acknowledged the contribution of Queiroz’s technical team, thanking the members for their support and work throughout his time with the Black Stars.
“We also extend our appreciation to his technical staff for their support and contribution to the Black Stars project.”
The Association said its decision was guided by what it considers to be the best interests of the national team and the wider Ghanaian football community.
“The GFA wishes Mr. Queiroz the very best in his future endeavours.”
With the coaching position now vacant, attention will turn to how the GFA plans to manage the Black Stars in the next phase of their international campaign.
The Association said it will announce the detailed technical arrangements and next steps concerning the leadership of the national team in due course.
