Priscilla Ofori, widely known as Odo Broni, has honoured the memory of her late husband, Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, by supporting patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on what would have been his 62nd birthday.
Odo Broni joined Daddy Lumba’s sister, Faustina Fosu, along with friends and other relatives, to provide financial assistance to patients facing difficulties in paying their medical bills.
The group focused part of the gesture on new mothers who could not afford the cost of their treatment, while also extending support to patients undergoing treatment for leukemia.
Odo Broni also paid the medical bills of all mothers who gave birth at the hospital on September 29, dedicating the gesture to Daddy Lumba as part of activities marking his birthday.
For Odo Broni, the decision to support patients battling cancer was deeply personal. She drew inspiration from the experience of her late mother-in-law, Comfort Ama Saah Gyamfi, who died after battling leukemia.
“My mother-in-law had leukemia and died, and anytime my late husband spoke about her, he wept. That’s why I have come to donate money to mothers whose children are battling cancer,” she said.
The mothers who received the cancer-related financial assistance were each given GH¢3,000 to help meet some of the needs associated with their children’s treatment.
Beyond the financial support, the gesture gave Odo Broni an opportunity to remember Daddy Lumba through an act centred on compassion and helping people going through difficult moments.
She also reflected on the musician’s contribution to Ghanaian music and the connection he built with his audience during his career.
According to Odo Broni, Daddy Lumba may no longer be physically present, but his music continues to live on through the millions of Ghanaians who listened to his songs and found joy, comfort and memorable moments in them.
She said the continued presence of his music has helped preserve the memories of the late musician, while his name and contribution to Highlife remain part of Ghana’s musical heritage.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, was one of Ghana’s most influential Highlife musicians. He died on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60.
