The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong has vowed to seek justice for her son, who was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, who travelled from Ghana to the United States following the tragedy, said she wants those behind the killing identified and held accountable as she prepares to lay her son to rest.
Speaking shortly after arriving in New York ahead of the funeral, she made an emotional appeal for justice, saying, “I want justice for my son, that is all.”
The grieving mother also revealed that Javits had hoped to become a medical doctor, a dream that was cut short by his untimely death. She described the teenager as a young boy whose life held promise and whose future had been taken away.
Javits was killed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while making his way to school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx. His death has left Ghanaian communities in New York deeply shaken, with growing demands for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Grade 10 student was heading to DreamYard Preparatory School when he was attacked near Crotona Park shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Information released by the New York Police Department indicates that Javits suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.
Police investigations suggest that three individuals dressed in hooded clothing and surgical masks were already in the area before the teenager arrived. According to investigators, Javits tried to escape when the suspects approached him, but they pursued him and opened fire.
The suspects are also believed to have returned to the scene to retrieve their spent shell casings before fleeing through a nearby subway station.
Authorities are continuing to examine the suspects’ movements and other available evidence as they work to establish their identities and track them down.
