Kweku Flick Reveals How Sarkodie’s ‘Messiah’ Saved His Music Career

Sarkodie and Kweku Flick

Kweku Flick has recounted how a difficult chapter in his personal life nearly brought his music career to an end. He revealed that Sarkodie’s ‘Messiah’ arrived at a time when he was seriously considering giving up on music.

The Ghanaian rapper said the death of his father in August 2024 affected him deeply and left him questioning his future in the industry. With uncertainty surrounding his next move, he turned to prayer, asking God to give him a clear indication of whether music was still his calling.

His prayers, he believes, were answered a few months later when Sarkodie contacted him with an invitation to contribute to a song titled ‘Messiah’.

During an interview on 3Music on November 2, 2026, Kweku Flick spoke about the importance of the collaboration, describing the opportunity as one of the most significant moments in his career. He also acknowledged that Sarkodie might not fully appreciate the extent of the impact he made by involving him in the project.

“I give a big shout-out to Sarkodie. The platform he gave me did a lot, and I am not even sure he knows what he has done for me,” he averred.

Revisiting the period following his father’s death, the rapper explained that he had reached a stage where continuing with music was no longer certain. He decided to seek divine direction, hoping for something that would convince him to stay on his chosen path.

“I lost my dad in August 2024. After everything that happened, I went on my knees and prayed to God that if He really wanted me to do music, He should show me a sign. Then, in November, I received a message with a song titled Messiah from Sarkodie,” Flick stated.

The experience changed his outlook, with Kweku Flick revealing that the collaboration helped prevent him from walking away from the music business. Had Sarkodie not reached out, he believes he would have redirected his energy towards running his mineral water business instead.

“I feel like that particular song has changed a lot because if it hadn’t been that song, I wouldn’t be here today. I would have been focusing on my mineral water,” the ‘Money’ composer divulged.

He also opened up about his creative contribution to the record, explaining that the idea for his part came to him while he was listening to the song during a drive.

At the time, Sarkodie had already completed two verses, but the composition still needed a chorus. Kweku Flick said he quickly found an idea that he felt would complement the existing verses and give the song the additional element it needed.

“Immediately I listened to the song, I told myself that this is my type. I was driving in a car and I was playing it. At that moment, I got the idea and the lyrics. The song had his verse; the first and second verse but no chorus, so I had to do something that will suit the verse,” the 25-year-old Ghanaian artiste further stated.
