“God Is Teaching Me Self-Love” – Sefa Reflects on Personal Growth

Sefa

Ghanaian singer Sefa is drawing attention to a more personal side of her journey, opening up about how faith and self-reflection are shaping the way she sees herself and builds resilience in her career and life.

In a recent discussion on Pulse Ghana, she spoke candidly about working through her self-criticism and learning to extend more grace to herself as she grows both professionally and personally.

“I feel like God is teaching me how to love myself more. I always say this because I always find myself in a space where I overthink things,” she said.

She explained that her habit of overthinking and constantly pushing herself has made her more intentional about self-acceptance, beyond her identity as a performer.

“I feel like maybe I can achieve a lot of things and I’m very critical about myself, so I’m learning to love myself, not just as Sefa an artiste but a woman who is growing to stand on her own feet,” she explained.

Sefa says that process has also highlighted the need for inner strength and spiritual grounding, particularly when life becomes overwhelming.

“It gets to a point where you are all you have, so you need to pray for yourself and ask God to show you the way. To direct you to your highest self,” she shared.

While she does not describe herself as strictly religious, she made it clear that spirituality plays a central role in how she navigates life.

“I won’t say I’m too religious, but I’m more on the spiritual side. I believe in a higher power more than me and I believe that there’s someone up there who’s taking care of all of us,” she stated.

She added that her faith has become her main emotional anchor, especially given her limited circle of close friendships.

“I go back to cry to God over everything. I really don’t have friends, so I always communicate with God and I feel like I have a close relationship with Him. I don’t just see Him as my creator but my brother and my everything,” Sefa further stated.
