Kwaku Manu Slams ‘Dumsor’ Politics, Urges Ghana to Expand Power Sources

Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has waded into the ongoing frustration over Ghana’s recurring power cuts, urging leaders to move past rhetoric and tackle the deeper causes of the crisis.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Joseph Henry Mensah on April 26, 2026, the actor argued that the conversation around electricity supply has lingered for too long without meaningful solutions. In his view, the focus should shift from blame to fixing structural problems within the power sector.

He took aim at the tendency to turn “dumsor” into a political talking point, insisting that the issue predates current administrations and should not be reduced to partisan debate.

“We are all aware that Ghana’s sickness is one, but we end up turning it into politics. This problem with our power system didn’t start today, and we all know that, yet the two major political parties keep using it for political gain,” he said.

Kwaku Manu also stressed the need to expand the country’s energy capacity, warning against overdependence on a single major source like the Akosombo Dam.

“We are growing as a country, so we should focus on building more power sources. It wouldn’t be a bad idea if we had four Akosombo Dams.

“Some countries are even using waste to generate electricity, but what is Ghana doing about this issue? Ghana isn’t even a big country, I could travel around it in just two days,” Kwaku Manu stated.
