Eastern Region Police Arrest 10 Over Illegal Arms Amid Adamorobe Chieftaincy Tensions

Police arrest 10 in Adamorobe over illegal arms tied to chieftaincy dispute; rifles, ammo and vehicles seized during operation.

Police in the Eastern Region have picked up ten individuals over suspected illegal possession of weapons, in a case tied to the simmering chieftaincy tensions in Adamorobe near Aburi.

The arrests were carried out on Sunday, May 3, during a targeted operation led by the Aburi District Command, according to a statement from the Eastern Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit.

Among those in custody are Dawu Joseph, a farmer; Kwame Aboagye, a vulcanizer; Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver in Adamorobe; Owusu Paul, linked to the Adamorobe Asekyere family; and Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman based in Sowutuom.

The remaining suspects were named as Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson and Richard Agyeman, all reportedly working as private security personnel.

A search conducted during the operation uncovered five pump-action rifles, twenty-three live cartridges, a taser, six mobile phones and a piece of body armour.

“Two vehicles were also impounded; one unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19 which were used to transport the suspects,” the statement said.

Police later confirmed that Douglas Amoako Danquah was also arrested on Monday, May 4, after he was allegedly spotted taking part in a procession within the town.

Despite that additional arrest, authorities insist the number of suspects linked to the case remains ten.

All individuals are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, the Command noted.

Residents have also been urged to remain calm, as the police reiterated their resolve to keep order amid the Adamorobe chieftaincy dispute.

“The Eastern Regional Police Command continues to assure the public of our continued commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Adamorobe,” the statement added.
