Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has criticised the Black Stars’ performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he expected the team’s campaign to end prematurely.
The Gomoa Central Member of Parliament made the comments during an appearance on United Showbiz, where he shared his thoughts on Ghana’s disappointing exit from the tournament.
According to A Plus, he was not surprised by the outcome because he believed the team had followed a familiar pattern of raising hopes among supporters before eventually disappointing them.
He argued that the Black Stars often generate excitement among Ghanaians only to fall short when expectations are at their peak, leaving fans heartbroken after investing their emotions in the team.
“The Black Stars hate to see only a few Ghanaians crying, so they had to organise a national day of mourning. They know that if they lose their first game of the tournament, many people will not be hurt.
“But when they perform, and Ghanaians begin to show interest, that is when they will lose, for many people to cry. I knew what they were doing was a build-up to a national day of disappointment,” he said.
The musician-turned-politician also revealed that he deliberately avoided watching Ghana’s matches because he had little belief that the team would achieve a strong result at the tournament.
A Plus explained that even when he was in Canada for Ghana’s opening fixture and later returned to Ghana for the second match, he chose not to follow the games because he already expected the outcome.
“I was in Canada when they played their first game, but I did not watch it because I knew they would not do well. I was also in Ghana during the second game, but I still did not watch it,” he further stated.
