Shatta Wale Defends Music Rivalries, Says Beef Can Boost Industry Growth

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy

Shatta Wale has weighed in on the often-debated issue of rivalry in Ghana’s music industry, arguing that disagreements between artistes should not be viewed as a threat to the sector’s growth.

The dancehall star shared his perspective during a visit to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom ahead of his much-anticipated concert scheduled for August.

According to Shatta Wale, competition has always been an integral part of the entertainment business, and musicians should be free to engage in rivalries as long as such situations do not create lasting divisions.

He stressed that the focus should be on maintaining peace after conflicts, rather than expecting artistes to avoid disagreements altogether.

“I feel sometimes we don’t get the necessary support as musicians. Artistes can beef, but there should be a time when we celebrate the anniversary of the beef. Stonebwoy and I have a rivalry, but everywhere I go, I want people to know that Stonebwoy is my little brother. I love him so much,” he said.

Touching on his long-running relationship with fellow dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale suggested that the rivalry between them should be seen through a different lens.

He believes such competition can create excitement within the industry and ultimately open doors to larger opportunities if managed properly.

The musician also pointed to the role of Stonebwoy’s team, saying those around the award-winning artiste should help him appreciate the bigger picture behind industry rivalries.

“He has a team around him, and I believe they should also try to educate him about what we are doing. This whole agenda people have been talking about could even become a major shutdown event when people see that we are ready to make it happen,” the Shatta Movement boss further stated.
