Sarkodie has addressed speculation surrounding a recent social media post by Stonebwoy, distancing himself from claims that the dancehall star was taking aim at him and Shatta Wale.
The controversy began after Stonebwoy shared a cryptic message on X in which he spoke about what he viewed as hypocrisy and pretence within the creative industry. Although he did not mention anyone by name, the post quickly sparked debate online.
Many social media users linked the remarks to Sarkodie and Shatta Wale, particularly following the pair’s renewed public friendship and their appearance together at Kweku Smoke’s concert in London. The timing of Stonebwoy’s post led some fans to believe it was directed at the two artistes.
Speaking in an interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, Sarkodie rejected that interpretation, insisting that he would not draw conclusions based on assumptions or online commentary.
“Let me be honest, I would like to hear it directly from him if it’s about Shatta Wale and me. But if he puts out a tweet, maybe people are linking it to the timing of what we did. I’ve been there several times. There was a time I literally sent one of my boys to get me gari, and people thought I was talking about the president.
“So I don’t want to play that game where my brother says something, and everyone assumes they know exactly what he means. If I meet him or he texts me and says this is what he meant, then I’ll know how to speak to him. But I don’t want to delve into assumptions because I haven’t had a conversation with him to know exactly what he was talking about,” he said.
Beyond the discussion surrounding Stonebwoy’s post, Sarkodie also reflected on what he sees as a recurring trend in Ghana, where positive moments are frequently interrupted by controversies that shift attention away from important achievements.
He argued that months of effort and progress are often overshadowed by distractions, a pattern he believes deserves serious reflection.
“Over the years, whenever Ghana has a beautiful moment, something always comes up to distract from it. You may think it’s funny, but I believe we need serious prayers.
“For some reason, something happens, whether intentional or not, and it kills the whole beautiful moment. I don’t know where that comes from, but we may have to pray and break that cycle because it happens too often,” Sarkodie further stated.
