“Stop Blaming Mahama for Everything” – MC Yaa Yeboah Tells Ghanaians Amid Flood Debate

Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has pushed back against the growing tendency to hold President John Dramani Mahama solely responsible for Ghana’s challenges, arguing that accountability must extend to the various state institutions and officials tasked with managing key sectors.

Speaking on United Showbiz, MC Yaa Yeboah noted that while the president provides leadership, he relies on appointed officials to execute responsibilities across different areas of governance. She said blaming him for every setback overlooks the roles assigned to those managing public institutions.

“We will be blaming everything on the government. The government has also appointed people at various institutions to do the work. President Mahama, in his own wisdom and knowledge, appointed people at various institutions to handle everything,” she said.

She maintained that public officials who earn salaries from the state must be answerable for their performance and ensure they deliver on their mandates.

“All these people take money, so what should the government do for you? You’re making the president suffer because he has designated people. Every person has roles they play. At the end of the month, they will take salary,” she stated.

Her comments came amid discussions on the recent flooding situation, where she questioned whether local assemblies and the Ghana Meteorological Agency had done enough preparation ahead of the heavy rains.

MC Yaa Yeboah argued that authorities responsible for monitoring weather patterns and maintaining sanitation infrastructure should have taken proactive steps to reduce the impact of the floods.

She further claimed that assemblies had received resources, including desilting machines, to address drainage challenges and questioned whether those tools were being effectively utilised.

“I learnt that assemblies were given desilting machines, which GH₵40 million is included. What work are you doing? How are you helping? They said it’s about to rain. Are we saying that the assemblies and the Ghana Meteorological Agency don’t have the statistics on the magnitude of rain that’s coming?” she asked.

The entertainment commentator also highlighted sanitation as a long-standing national concern, calling on responsible institutions to introduce practical solutions to prevent recurring flood-related destruction.

“When you know that in your country, one of your biggest problems is sanitation, what measures have they put in place so that when it rains, it will not cause damage again?” she said.

MC Yaa Yeboah also criticised the practice of turning national emergencies into political debates, stressing that attention should instead be directed towards finding lasting solutions.

“As the president is in the helicopter, assessing the road, we sit on radio and TV and shamelessly make politics of it,” she added.
