Four people accused of kidnapping and torturing 30-year-old Bismark Amoh in Assin Fosu in the Central Region have been granted bail totalling GH₵320,000 by the Assin Fosu District Court.
The accused persons are facing six charges, namely kidnapping, conspiracy to commit crime, threat of harm, causing harm, unlawful sharing of intimate images and stealing.
All four accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges before the court, according to GNA.
The first accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, 42, a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, and the second accused, Oteng Barfour, 31, an electrician, were each granted bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The third accused, Charles Doku, 53, a security guard, and the fourth accused, Kenneth Opoku Kwarteng, alias Culture, a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, were each granted bail of GH¢60,000 with two sureties.
One of the sureties for each of the two accused persons was required to be a public officer.
The case was presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, who adjourned proceedings to October 23, 2026.
Prosecutors, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wonder Lumor and Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo, told the court that the four accused persons were arrested after allegations emerged that they had held Amoh hostage between September 6 and 11, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the victim was subjected to severe torture during the period he was allegedly held captive, while the accused persons demanded GH¢45,000 from his family.
The prosecution further told the court that the suspects alleged that Amoh had defrauded the first accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, of GH₵44,800.
The case has therefore been adjourned to October 23, when the matter is expected to come before the court again.
