Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has opened up about a period in his life when he spent heavily on luxury vehicles, saying he later realised that the money could have been put into investments that offered greater long-term value.
He disclosed in an interview on Hitz FM that he once had about seven cars, including high-end models such as the Audi S5, BMW 8 Series and BMW 7 Series.
“I had about seven cars in the house at a time. I had an S5, I had 8 Series, 7 Series. I had different cars,” he said.
According to Ofori Amponsah, his outlook on spending changed after he began looking at the difference between the amount he paid for the vehicles and what they were worth when he eventually sold them.
He cited the Audi S5 as an example, saying the depreciation made him rethink the decision to put so much money into cars.
“Imagine buying an S5 fresh maybe $75,000 and then selling it eight years later for ¢50 million. I realised it,” he stated.
The musician said the experience taught him an important lesson about prioritising assets that can retain or increase their value over time.
He also suggested that excessive spending on luxury items is a common mistake among people in the entertainment industry, particularly when financial decisions are made without sufficient attention to the future.
“You see the stupid thing that we do,” he added.
While cars once accounted for a significant part of his spending, Ofori Amponsah said his interest in property and farming has become a more important part of how he approaches wealth.
His connection to farming, he explained, goes back to his childhood. He grew up in a family where agriculture was part of everyday life, with his father owning farms.
“My mum was a teacher. My dad was a businessman and so my dad had farms and everything. So, when people were spending vacations in Accra, we’ll be spending time on my farm. I mean I’m a farm boy,” he said.
That upbringing, he noted, shaped his continued interest in farming even as his music career developed.
Ofori Amponsah revealed that the practice has followed him into adulthood, with farms attached to all the houses he currently owns.
“When you come to my house right now, every house that I have now has a farm,” he divulged.
Asked about the number of properties he has accumulated over the years, the musician did not give a specific figure but suggested that his real estate portfolio is substantial.
“Oh, it’s plenty,” Ofori Amponsah averred.
