Gospel singer Florence has made a change to her professional identity after dropping the surname of her former husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, following the traditional dissolution of their marriage.
For years, the musician was known in the entertainment industry as Florence Obinim. She has now confirmed that she will no longer use the surname as part of her music identity.
Florence disclosed the change in a video shared online by Tina News, where she introduced the name she will now use professionally.
“Now my music name is Queen Florence the Lioness,” she revealed.
The development comes shortly after the traditional dissolution of her marriage to Bishop Obinim, also known as Angel Obinim, with whom she had been married for more than two decades.
The end of the marriage attracted public attention in September 2026 following reports that traditional rites had been performed, including the return of the “Tiri Nsa”.
Bishop Obinim subsequently made his position on the matter known publicly, asking Florence to stop using his family name.
According to the preacher, he had accepted the drink presented to him as part of the traditional process to signify the dissolution of their marriage. He therefore maintained that Florence should remove the surname Obinim from her name.
The issue had already generated attention earlier in September after an audio recording of Bishop Obinim circulated online.
In the recording, the International God’s Way Church leader spoke about the breakdown of the marriage and directly addressed Florence’s continued use of his surname.
He accused her of embarrassing him and reiterated that she should no longer carry his family name following the traditional dissolution of their marriage.
“You have embarrassed me, and I emphasise that when I die, don’t come to my funeral as a widow. Since I have accepted the drink, remove the name Obinim from your name,” he declared.
