Kelvyn Boy has reflected on his time with Stonebwoy, admitting that his loyalty to the dancehall musician once pushed him into making insulting remarks about Shatta Wale, something he now regrets.
The musician made the revelation during an interview on Hitz FM, while discussing the impact of artiste camps and fan loyalty on relationships within Ghana’s music industry.
According to Kelvyn Boy, his association with Stonebwoy came with moments when he felt compelled to defend his former boss, including directing insults at Shatta Wale, who has had a long-standing rivalry with Stonebwoy.
He acknowledged that Shatta Wale had legitimate reasons to be offended by some of the things he said at the time. However, Kelvyn Boy said he was surprised by how quickly the dancehall star let go of the past when they eventually met.
“…He is a very free-spirited person… We dropped ‘Excellent’, and he called Medikal and said he liked the song, and we linked up. The time I met him and the energy and everything, I’m like, wow. Then he forgot all those times when they bashed the camp.
“I mean, people bashed me too, and then the Militants used me. We said some things. I’m like, you know, loyalty said all those things, and Shatta even forgave that, and I don’t take that lightly, you understand?” he said.
Kelvyn Boy’s comments come at a time when conversations about loyalty within Ghana’s music industry have again gained attention, particularly over the way fans and artistes sometimes turn rivalries into personal attacks.
He also weighed in on a recent post by Sarkodie, who criticised the practice of fans using loyalty to their favourite artistes as a reason to insult other musicians.
Kelvyn Boy’s observation was familiar because the rapper had personally experienced such situations.
He admitted that while he was with Stonebwoy, loyalty to the camp sometimes influenced the things he said about artistes on the other side of the rivalry.
“What Sarkodie said is true because when I was with Stone, we sometimes used loyalty to say some things about the other camp. I mean, I feel bad for taking sides because of where I was at the moment. But we love them all,” Kelvyn Boy further stated.
