Kumasi: Taxi cabs thief busted in Kumasi

The Suntreso District Police Command has arrested thirty-seven (37) year old suspected thief Alex Owusu for his involvement of theft of taxi cabs from it owners within the metropolis.

The suspected was arrested on Tuesday August 19, 2020 after he attempted to steal a taxi from his owner.

The Ashanti Regional Police PRO ASP Godwin Ahianyo addressing the media narrates that the suspect Alex Owusu usually hired the services from the taxi drivers from neighboring towns especially Obuasi, Tarkwa, Nkawkwa and its environs under the pretense of coming excavator parts from Kumasi-Suame Magazine or his sick mother in Kumasi.

According to ASP Godwin Ahianyo “On arrival in Kumasi, the suspect will conveyed the taxi cab drivers to have the cars wash at washing bay and persuade them leave the car with the bay attendant and accompany him to Suame Magazine to buy the suppose excavator parts”.

“While there, the suspect will take leave of the victim and convince the victim that he is going to take money from the bank to buy the excavator parts. The suspect will return to the washing bay and take the keys from the bay attendant and drive the car away” ASP Godwin Ahianyo.

ASP Godwin Ahianyo added that, “The Ashanti Regional Police Command has received several complaints from the victims and with the assistance of Kosoa District Police Command, the police was able to apprehend the suspect”.

The suspect led the police to retrieved eight (8) taxi cabs such as Toyota Corolla, Hyundai and others and the cars are in custody of Suntreso District Police Command.

The suspect is currently in Police Custody assisting the police in their investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police PRO ASP Godwin Ahianyo appealed to commercial drivers especially taxi drivers to be mindful of passengers they take and juicy thing they hear from their passengers.
