Circuit Supervisors And Teachers Boycott Workshop In Sunyani Over Paltry Allowance

Over 700 Circuit Supervisors and teachers from Senior High and Junior High schools in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions undergoing a workshop in Sunyani have boycotted the programme third-day into the workshop over what they described as poor treatment.

The five – day residential training programme is on the new JHS and SHS curriculum to be introduced in January 2021.

The Sunyani Technical University was the venue for the workshop. However, during a visit to the lecture halls venue for the workshop, the place was deserted, the 700 Circuit Supervisors and teachers have boycotted the workshop over what they called poor treatment in relation to the amount they would be given as allowance.

They described the allowance as paltry, Bismark Anokye who spoke on behalf of the participants noted that the allowance was inadequate and therefore have boycotted the workshop.

Francis Kwadwo Nubabaare Francis from the Pru East in an interview with First News noted that he is surprised they are going to receive 200 cedis.

“This is not the first time I am attending this workshop, when we attended a similar one , each participant received 500 cedis for the five-day programme. It was supposed to be 800 cedis but they told us the 300 cedis is for feeding and accommodation which we accepted. Why should they peg the amount the same. Some one is from Sunyani and someone is from Pru East and you are giving us the same amount, this is not far.”

However, the Regional Directors for the three regions of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo declined to speak on the issue.
