Queiroz Tells Ghana: “We Win or We Learn” After Croatia Defeat Ahead of Colombia Clash

New Black Stars of Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz

Carlos Queiroz has called on Ghana to view their narrow defeat to Croatia as a valuable lesson rather than a setback, insisting the Black Stars can use the experience to strengthen their push in the World Cup knockout stage.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 loss in their final Group L encounter but still advanced to the Round of 32 after securing qualification as one of the best third-placed sides. They will now turn their attention to a meeting with Colombia.

Despite the disappointment of the result, Queiroz remained focused on the bigger picture and avoided placing blame on his players, instead highlighting the importance of learning from difficult moments.

The Ghana coach, who has built his career around resilience and improvement, summed up his approach after the match.

“Yeah, I think, as I used to say, we win or we learn. Today we learn.”

For Queiroz, every challenge at a major tournament presents an opportunity to improve, especially with the demands of the competition increasing at every stage.

“And we learn to be better prepared for the World Championship.”

The Portuguese tactician also warned that reaching the knockout rounds should not be considered an achievement on its own, explaining that qualification only opens the door to a tougher battle.

“Qualification is not a destination. Qualification is just a credit card that you receive to deserve to be in this stage of the competition.”

“Now we have to pay the price of having that credit card in your pocket.”

With the tournament entering its decisive phase, Queiroz described the knockout rounds as a completely different challenge where concentration, bravery and execution become crucial.

“Everything to the winner, nothing to the loser.”

“So that means that every single game is about drama. Nobody can hide anything since the first minute.”

He urged his squad to embrace the pressure and approach the clash against Colombia with determination, believing the knockout stage requires total commitment from every player.

“Everybody must go for it and put everything in the game.”

“And play really the knockout stage with that spirit of entertainment and drama, emotional. That’s the real World Cup that starts next game.”

Ghana will now prepare for a difficult encounter against Colombia as they look to continue their World Cup journey. Queiroz believes the lessons from the group stage have given the Black Stars the experience needed to compete when every moment carries greater importance.
