Two students arrested for lynching spiritualist over stolen phone allegation

Two students from Twifo Praso Senior High School have been arrested for allegedly organizing a mob to lynch a spiritualist who accused one of them of stealing a mobile phone. The incident occurred in Twifo Praso in the Central Region.

The spiritualist, identified as Abdul Latif, was approached by the students to help locate a missing phone belonging to a junior student. After conducting a spiritual inquiry, Latif accused one of the students of being the thief.

In retaliation, the accused student reportedly gathered a group of about 10 individuals who ambushed and brutally attacked Latif on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m.

The group beat him severely, resulting in his death. They then dragged his body into a nearby bush and attempted to conceal it by covering it with weeds.

The police later discovered Latif’s body and transported it to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.

The incident has caused significant unrest among the youth in Twifo Praso, with some planning to seek revenge on the school.

However, a swift response from the police, including reinforcements from the Central North Regional Police Command, prevented further violence and maintained order in the area.

Yaw Nkrumah, the father of the deceased, revealed that his son had been attacked twice before by students from the school but managed to escape unharmed. Unfortunately, the third attack proved fatal. The students involved are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
