Renowned Composer, Paul Vitus Obosu Celebrates 80th Birthday

Renowned composer and organist Paul Vitus Obosu recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Born in September 1944, Obosu made history as the first music teacher and choirmaster at Sunyani Senior High School, formerly Sunyani Secondary School, and served as the organist at Christ the King Cathedral.

Throughout his career, Obosu composed countless pieces, including anthems for various schools such as Sunyani Senior High, St. James Seminary Senior High, St. Augustine’s Senior High in Berekum, and Gilberto Senior High. He also created anthems for special occasions.

In recognition of his contributions to music, Obosu has received numerous awards and honors from organizations such as Sunyani COSRA, the All Saints Choir, Adehyemma Sacred Choral Group, Holy Spirit Church Choir, and the Sunyani Catholic Diocesan Choirs Association.

Among his well-known compositions are “Nyame Ye,” “Jesus Ne Honam,” “Mehye Me Nyame,” and “M’enyimnyam Nye Jesus,” among others.
