Lawra MCE Alhaji Adam Muazu Dies Months After Appointment, Community Mourns

Late Lawra MCE - Alhaji Adam Muazu

The Lawra Municipality in Ghana’s Upper West Region is in mourning following the death of its recently appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu. His passing in Accra was confirmed by family sources, who disclosed he had been battling a long-term illness.

Appointed to the position just months ago in April 2025, Alhaji Muazu had reportedly been in fragile health even before assuming office, seeking treatment at multiple medical facilities across the country.

His death comes at a time of deep sorrow for the municipality, which is still grappling with the recent drowning of seven students from Lawra Senior High School at the Dikpe River, a tributary of the Black Volta.

Notably, one of Alhaji Muazu’s last official duties was joining members of the Upper West Regional Security Council to express condolences to the grieving families and the school community in the wake of that tragedy.

Before his elevation to MCE, Alhaji Muazu was well known in political and educational circles. He served as the first Propaganda Secretary (now Communications Officer) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lawra Constituency. He also played a central role in political strategy, successfully coordinating two parliamentary campaigns for the sitting MP, Bede A. Ziedeng.

Outside politics, he wore many hats. Alhaji Muazu was a professional teacher, entrepreneur, and founder of Superteck Digital Studios, a multimedia company. A product of the final cohort of the old secondary school system, he completed Wa Secondary School in 1994.

At the time of his passing, Alhaji Adam Muazu was 53 years old. He is survived by three wives and seven children.

His body is expected to be transported to Lawra through Wa today, Tuesday, June 24, and will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs.
