From heartbreak to healing, Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, the Adventist SHS student who lost sight in one eye after a traumatic shooting, has regained her vision following a successful surgery in the United Kingdom.
The life-changing procedure took place on June 2, 2025, at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, a globally renowned facility specializing in eye care. Her treatment and travel were fully funded by Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, whose intervention has given new hope to Suzzy and her family.
In a video shared online, Suzzy’s brother, Clement, joyfully confirmed her progress: “She’s able to do things on her own now.” The video shows Suzzy walking outdoors unaided and helping herself to a meal, visible proof of her restored independence.
A statement issued by Rafik Mahama, aide to Ibrahim Mahama, praised the medical professionals involved and highlighted the significance of the support that made the surgery possible.
“I am pleased to announce that Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang successfully underwent her scheduled eye surgery on June 2, 2025, at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom, one of the world’s leading and most renowned eye hospitals.
The operation was a success, and Suzzy is now on the path to full recovery. She has already begun regaining her independence and is now able to see on her own. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams in both Ghana and the United Kingdom, particularly the exceptional team at Moorfields Eye Hospital, as well as the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Ghana High Commission in London, outgoing UK High Commissioner to Ghana, HE Harriet Thompson, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, Suzzy’s family, the media, Roger Pope Opticians in London and the general public for their unwavering support, commitment, and prayers.
We are especially grateful to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, whose generosity and full support made this entire process possible for Suzzy. We continue to pray and hope for Suzzy’s steady progress and wish her a smooth and full recovery in the weeks ahead.”
