Nana Agradaa’s Legal Team Seeks Court Relocation in GH₵20M Defamation Case, Citing Prison Transit Strain

Nana Agradaa convicted

The legal team representing Nana Agradaa, the embattled evangelist currently serving a 15-year prison sentence, is pushing to have her ongoing civil defamation suit moved from Accra to a court in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Their reasoning: the repeated transport from Nsawam Prison to the capital is logistically burdensome and disruptive to proceedings.

The latest twist in the high-profile civil case was confirmed by a lawyer for gospel musician Empress Gifty, who is suing Agradaa for defamation. Speaking to reporters on July 16, 2025, he revealed that Agradaa’s counsel had argued in court for a change in venue.

“Today, Nana Agradaa’s lawyers came up with another application that the place she is being kept is too far from the court. So they appealed that the case be moved to a court in the Eastern Region… When the time comes, the court will hear that application,” he explained.

But Empress Gifty’s legal team remains firm in their stance, arguing that the current venue should not impede the administration of justice. They also drew a clear line between the present case and the criminal charges that resulted in Agradaa’s incarceration.

“That issue was a criminal issue, this one is a civil issue, there is no jail time involved in this case,” the lawyer clarified.

The civil suit stems from a GH₵20 million claim Empress Gifty filed in May 2025. She accuses Nana Agradaa of spreading vulgar and defamatory claims, including allegations of promiscuity and bestiality, during a livestreamed video.

In a prior attempt to dismiss the defamation case, Agradaa filed a motion which was denied by the Tema High Court in June. The court not only upheld the case but also fined her GH₵6,000 in legal costs. Her imprisonment for fraud, the judge ruled, would not exempt her from facing civil litigation.
